BAY OF BISCAY - FRANCE TO SPAIN - ST DENIS D-OLERON TO SANTANDER

BAY OF BISCAY - FRANCE TO SPAIN - ST DENIS D-OLERON TO SANTANDER

So this is were we cross the Bay of Biscay it was a decent fast crossing.

Geography

The town of Saint-Denis d'Oléron is located at the northern end of the Île d'Oléron, in the northwest of the Charente-Maritime department.

Activities

Saint-Denis d'Oleron is the northern most town of the island. As a result, the town has managed to retain an environment in which nature, authenticity and recreation are in perfect harmony.

Among the local activities are: swimming for families on Boirie beach (which is lined with multicolored cabins), sports on the beach, bike trails along the coastline, walks on the marina (with assured access to local gastronomy), sea fishing and boat trips (daily).

The majestic Chassiron lighthouse is near the town, overlooking the Passage of Antioch, with unforgettable views from its summit at 46 meters.

BALLYCASTLE TO COLERAINE

  BALLYCASTLE TO COLERAINE

Work time after our 1st sail in ages. Down through the bar mouth

Well you probably recognise this stretch of coast being close to my home port . In this video I am just taking my Sigma 33 , " Just Because " over to Coleraine in preparation for the 2018 season . We pass Rathlin sound , as choppy as ever with the Overfalls and the Bull Point Lighthouse around Whitepark Bay passed the world famous Giants Causseway Formation than then onward to the Barmouth - the Entrance to the Lower Bann River  . We can move all the way up the River to Coleraine. To the left of the Barmouth is Portstewart Strand and beyond that on the Right Hand Side heading to Coleraine is Castlerock. If you continue to follow the River Bann it will reach Lough Neagh at Toome Bridge the Upper Bann enters Lough Neagh some distance away having its source in the Mournes . I began my sailing interest on the Upper Bann and have spent many hours trekking in the Mourne Mountains

LEARNING THE ROPES GIMME THE WAVES

LEARNING THE ROPES GIMME THE WAVES

Learning in more wind today. 25/32 it's getting there....falls in the Rathlin sound

Whenever the tide turns, water heads from one area to another. This sets up a flow known as tidal currents. Tidal currents moving over a rough seabed make the surface of the sea turbulent. This effect is known as 'overfalls'
