PWLLHELI TO VICTORIA DOCK - ROUND BRITAIN

PWLLHELI TO VICTORIA DOCK - ROUND BRITAIN

Time to get back moving again there is a lot of changes in this video. Let’s just say there is never no harm in running back to the safety of a harbour while your still in striking distance. We leave Pwllheli and we decide to turn back as the sea and wind just wasn’t in our favour. You will get a laugh at this one with Darren putting fenders on in a bumpy sea. The next morning we set of again still some wind and the sea a little bumpy as we left but nothing major as we make for a little anchorage close to Bardsey sound. The anchorage is down in a corner of Aberdaron bay the holding was fine but the boat was rolling about a little there is no mobile signal. We settled here for the night as we were moving of in the morning to go through Bardsey sound. The water around Bardsey itself can be dangerous beware of the Devils tail as it can produce bad seas in the wrong conditions. Bardsey can be another nasty place in the wrong conditions with strong tide and overfalls. Lots of people will tell you horror stories about it but it’s nothing to worry about just remember hit it at slack water especially on springs watch the weather and avoid wind against tide... you soon go through it if everything is in your favour. Anyway we make it through the sound and head up towards Caernarfon bar now timing is essential here and you will run aground if you miss the tide. I will tell PAY ATTENTION TO TIDE.. also this bar can be wicked in the wrong conditions lucky for us it was perfect...the channel itself is well marked just follow the port and starboard marks remember they change and get moved so don’t go on old charts.. picking up the first Mark can be hard if it’s your first time but once in your away. Be very aware that some silly fishermen put pots in the middle of the channel which in my eyes is an absolute disgrace and they should be beat with a stick and fined if you ask me. You will feel a good pull of the tide heading down to Victoria dock remember there is gates on this marina so get the times from the almanac are phone ahead. Victoria dock I really enjoyed beautiful spot friendly in the marina and close to the town and shop.. I beautiful little town at that. Guys I hope you are enjoying the videos as every day that camera rolls to let you see what real cruising is like..you see what it’s really like not just the fun bits and I try and be as honest as I can. It sometimes offends folk but this is my story and I’m telling it how I see it. It’s been great having you all follow and it really is great having you onboard. I wish you all a great weekend. I have a new PayPal account set up for anyone that would like to help with these adventures. The PayPal was asked for by a follower as they didn’t like using the go fund me link the go fund me link is still active so there is now two options... again thanks to all that’s helped in the past it’s meant a lot and helps me keep the boat running even the smallest donations go a long way .

DALE ANCHORAGE (MILFORD HAVEN ) TO PWLLHELI - ROUND BRITAIN

DALE ANCHORAGE TO PWLLHELI

After a great time in Milford Haven it was time to get moving again. We push of from Dale anchorage and aim for Fishguard. So first real thing to look out for is when you start aiming for jack sound the water from saint Ann’s across to jack sound can get messy and dangerous in the wrong conditions so look at the tides well and the weather conditions. This jack sound is nothing to worry about in settled conditions the route navionics gives you is pretty spot on but still keep your eyes peeled and keep a little caution. There is a lot of pots around this place so I would strongly advise only doing this in daylight hours...once you commit that’s you no turning back. Anyway we go through the sound just fine and on across to Ramsey sound another stretch that needs treated with caution and done in settled conditions. I didn’t see as many pots here but I would stick to daylight hours again the navionics route was spot on going through here(I’m using an iPad Air 2 with active gps) So the secret for the two sounds is decent weather and in daylight due to pots and just stay tuned in. I have another video called the day of two sounds from a few years back so you can get lots of eyes on the two sounds. The run on up to Fishguard was uneventful and straight forward. Fishguard well first things first don’t anchor in the harbour area the recommend anchorage has decent holding but beware to the starboard as there is lots of markers and could be easily caught up if coming in at night .just follow what the almanac says and you will be fine. Just watch the sea and wind direction because in the wrong angle she will get up and down. When we anchored it actually look pretty beautiful...but it was only for the night. We weren’t long lighting the stove and getting fed and making plans to head for Aberystwyth. Next morning and we were off again on the run up to Aberystwyth we got a call from the range asking our intentions as there was live firing. Really a very uneventful sail/motor up. We had to wait outside on the tide as this entrance can be a bollocks ..advice is make sure you have plenty of water under you and don’t be looking round you going in here caution required. Aberystwyth itself is a beautiful place and I can tell you this the showers here are top class best marina showers about if I’m honest. We get a quick look about and stock up with food again and make new plans... so next stop Pwllheli. Leaving Aberystwyth again keep alert and get the tides right. I always like doing dodgy places on a rising tide especially if your new to the areas.heading up to Pwllheli no great hazards just watch for Saint Patrick’s causeway a long prong that comes out and you will hit the bottom it’s well marked tho on charts. On the way up the boat slowed down and started to heat up I knew there was something wrong. Weed on my prop ..it tangled all round my folding prop and was hard on the engine. So we stopped and got Dangerous Darren ready for a dip to clean the prop and a fine job he done. Arriving at Pwllheli we were a little early so it was anchor up and chill. We didn’t really chill we got in the water and cleaned the hull of the boat ..awk it was fun tho and killed some time. The entrance to this place is a bollocks I wouldn’t do anything only 2hrs each side of high water. I watched so many smart me hit the bottom that day and came back out. The tide is strong so stay on the tiller and on the ball the first bend the tide has a habit of pushing you of course just be aware of that. Nice marina friendly staff and decent people about ..we met some great folk that follow the adventures and it was a great pleasure for me to get chatting with them...it was funny coming in as someone shouted out our name and hello and Darren was like how the 🤬do they know us...very funny he still didn’t realise that so many followed the adventures. Anyway I hope you are all keeping well in these crazy times. Hope you enjoy the video

ANCHORAGES    Milford Haven 1, Entry and Passage Anchorages

NEWLYN TO MILFORD HAVEN - ROUND BRITAIN

NEWLYN TO MILFORD HAVEN

So this one we round lands end and head for Milford Haven. So much was changing on this one. We planned to go to Ireland but changing forecasts stopped that but not only that Ireland was going back into a lockdown and I didn’t fancy spending 2weeks stuck onboard. So as we got round lands end it was up the Bristol Channel we went. We started getting some lumpy seas through the night and wind so I pushed well offshore to keep things safe. I think Darren might of thought I lost the marbles when the sea was getting bigger and I said we are going further out to sea on this next tack..but it really is the safer thing to do... things when a ok apart from the reefing horns snapping off after getting hit with a huge gust lucky the boom didn’t fly of and rip the sail. We kept the boat singing along and got everything tied down so all was well. I knew by almost morning the conditions were to easy so it was just ride her out to the sun comes up. Coming up past Lundy about 25 miles west of it we had do.hind follow us for hours it was just absolutely amazing you will love the footage in this video you will feel like one of the pod. When we get into Milford Haven we met up with Darrel from Sailing and cruising uk. Darrel was very kind and helped us find a welder to do the work on the reefing horn. In the end it was a friend of Darrel who done the work for us so thanks Martin. We met some nice people in Milford and as always we got a great welcome. Once all was sorted we had a very kind offer from Darrell of beer and chips...he also gave us a bit of a guided tour and seeing a little bit of the coast from a different angle... so it was really nice and appreciated. After a couple of days we moved back down into Dale anchorage ..it’s an anchorage I know well now it has very good holding and lots of room. You got to go into the little village it’s actually pretty nice ...anyway I hope you enjoy the video and thanks again Milford Haven for the nice welcome.

BRIXHAM TO NEWLYN - ROUND BRITAIN

 BRIXHAM TO NEWLYN

What a beautiful morning when we wake up in Brixham the sun was out and conditions looked good...but were was the wind?.this leg we head for Plymouth to a nice little anchorage. The south coast of the UK I kind of like and there is a few good places but we had to keep moving forward. So it was only a quick stop and get some sleep before heading for Falmouth. Not long after leaving we heard a mayday for a sinking boat near Plymouth but we were far enough away and wouldn’t of be any good for help...it’s a cruel old world out here. This wouldn’t be the last mayday we would hear on the vhf as there was another boat this time a trawler out in the English Channel taking on water. The coast guard sent the lifeboat and the chopper was out bringing the salvage pump ..lol turned out ok that god for those guys sakes that it was a good day. So arriving at Falmouth we got into Pendennis marina for some food...40 quid a night now this is what I didn’t like about the south coast. The marina staff here was actually spot on but I will say we had a few strange looks from the posh yachts as we arrived looking a little scruffy, washing hanging of the boat and our old friend the deer head hanging of the stern and old just because was looking rough like ourselves. All I can say in our defence to the posh yachts and crew is.....this is what a well used sailing vessel and crew look like...and what I will say to anyone starting sailing never worry if your boat is old scruffy as long as she is sea worthy just go show those F@#kers what your made of and enjoy your adventure no matter where you are. Around this Pendennis there is lots of shops and you are close to the town for all your needs. The town itself I really liked and by god that fresh smell of perfume and beautiful girls ...awww why didn’t I stay longer. Next day it was back to the sea after all that’s what we came to do. Heading for Newlyn a place I know pretty well from a previous trip was very uneventful...one place I will tell you to exercise caution is at lizard point the water round here can be pretty bad so remember watch the weather and conditions. It’s at this point we started getting many sightings of huge tuna... we make it into Newlyn safe but hungry so it was straight to the Chinese for a feast... hope you enjoy the video and I hope this series brings you some enjoyment over these dark times of lockdown ...lots more to come⛵️

PORTLAND BILL TO BRIXHAM - ROUND BRITAIN

 PORTLAND BILL TO BRIXHAM

Well as promised a few episodes for over the holidays to maybe keep you amused. This time we take on Portland Bill a stretch of water around a headland which can be very dangerous indeed due to large Eddie’s on either side, races and overfalls in the wrong conditions this place could swallow you up. There are two passages you can take one is sticking very close to the coast and the other being the offshore passage. Which one do I take in the video? We had lots of wind and sailing tight to the wind all day it was a long old day and the swell didn’t help. The wind and swell stayed up to we got close to Brixham and it eased off very nice so we could anchor and get a peaceful nights sleep. Brixham looked a very nice place but we weren’t for staying we just wanted some rest and have the wind change direction for us. You may find some wind noise in the video but let’s be honest when your onboard and you come out to do stuff it’s noisy you have to shout to crew if you need stuff doing it really is how it is. My voyages and adventures are showing you how it really is I edit onboard and while at sea I don’t bring this stuff home and edit it to a point were it’s not how it looked and sounded on the day... I’m an adventurer/explore and I bring you real raw footage I’m not trying to be someone I’m not which is very genuine and 95% of YouTube channels are not like this..your seeing the real me and what I do I don’t have to make silly content to keep this channel moving your following real adventure. For those that genuinely follow me and comment on here and stay connected to the adventures I also share my own personal Facebook page and Instagram so you know your dealing with the real person it gives you a look into who I really am ... you don’t find that to often. Anyway I hope you enjoy this short episode ⛵️

SOLENT TO PORTLAND HARBOUR - ROUND BRITAIN

SOLENT TO PORTLAND HARBOUR

We set of from the anchorage in the Solent beside the Isle of Wight ( no comments on how I say Solent please as I’m a disaster) heading down the Solent there was lots of traffic lots of fancy boats big fancy boats and this was a place I’ve heard lots about on sailing pages and from people about it being the dogs balls of sailing in the UK and lots of bragging about doing certain course down her..well I wasn’t impressed when I seen some crazy boat handling and rules of the road looking like something from a benny hill movie. Anyway enough on that I can see why lots of people would be drawn here as you will always find lots of boats out and about but it’s not for me as you that follow me know I like remote places wild place but everyone to their own kind of thing so no need to take offence cause I didn’t personally like it..it just seemed to be a place where it’s all about the money. As we left the Solent we swung to starboard and headed for Studland anchorage now treat that turn with respect in hard tide the place we crossed is known as the trap I explain a little about it in the video. Arriving at Studland anchorage there was lots of boats about and I must say great holding here but we couldn’t get ashore due to wind. I seen something really dangerous here were someone tried to sail of from anchor in very high wind and it went totally wrong a very silly move in a packed anchorage ..and yes their engine was working fine. I think if your trying these things which do need practiced from time to time do it on a day where you know it’s not 30plus kts and the place isn’t packed again this was from a fancy boat with crew. Now the reason I keep mentioning fancy boats and big course is for a good reason...when I first started I always thought listen to this guy are girl look at this boat it has everything and these guys are talking the talk they must know what they are at...this is not always the case and after a short time you soon learn to talk and listen to real advice and 9 times out of 10 it doesn’t come from the big fancy boat are the guy with a book full of certificates. Moving on ...we spent a couple of days in Studland on anchor before weather changed and off we went to good old Portland harbour. I suggest you google about this harbour as it’s got a good bit of history I’m kind of wishing I explored this place a little... Where we anchored was meant to be an anchorage but it was covered in mooring balls ..we had no sooner the anchor down to we had someone out dropping pots everywhere round us isn’t it was well we didn’t drag anchor in the early hours .......

DOVER TO ISLE OF WIGHT - ROUND BRITAIN

DOVER TO ISLE OF WIGHT

Well we missed showing you from Ramsgate to Dover as I just needed me time and sailing with no camera. In this video I’m a little pissed off due to a few factors but anyway the show goes on. This stretch we have had very little wind and a boring old passage along the way you will see a little on the cruising chute. We end up aiming for Eastbourne marina in the approach be carful and stay in the channel. It’s at this point you will hear bad talk and see me pissed off... 35 quid for this carryon...don’t get me wrong the staff were ok and friendly. I’m sorry if my straight talking offends anyone but I just say it how I see it I’m not your prim and proper sailor I’m a guy from the street taking you on a journey with me you either love it are hate it. Anyways Eastbourne was only a quick stopping point before we headed of to an anchorage on the Isle of Wight again the sail down was uneventful no wind smooth sea and a lot of motoring...as we headed for the Isle of Wight we started to run out of tide due to the slow progress using my little old worn out Volvo Penta so we just came out of the main channel and dropped anchor as I’d just about had enough that day and I wasn’t wrecking my engine pushing tide. We sat about for an hour are so had some food checked the engine over and oil levels before setting off again for the planned anchorage ...lots of big ships lurking about here but it was a beautiful night for it .... anyway please don’t be offended as I Chuck a fit on this video as I say we are guys from the street and not your prim and proper sailor ...what you see here is real adventure with real people with nothing to hide.

LOWESTOFT TO RAMSGATE - ROUND BRITAIN

 LOWESTOFT TO RAMSGATE

Well this video is out a few days early as I’m setting of into the mountains for a charity hike set up by myself 40 miles 22 mountain summits in less than 38 hours. Video to follow from this very active channel. Anyway let’s talk sailing ...in this one we leave Lowestoft and head for Ramsgate. Remember watch that entrance at Lowestoft it can be dangerous. When we set of we had some awesome fast sailing for a while until the old wind on nose thing started. We headed towards Harwich and up towards the start of the river Stour to halfpenny pier. This was only a quick stopping point and to be honest we had no interest in exploring the rivers and mud banks. As I’m sure you all are aware that I’m not enjoying this coast due to its industrial nature wind farms and many other things.. it’s no offence to anyone so please don’t take that wrong just not my cup of tea. The next morning we set off for Ramsgate passing the Thames estuary and many wind farms ..it looks very cluttered on the charts and navionics but to be honest it’s straight forward and nothing really to worry about. Anyway we make it to ramsgate the approach was fine ...the marina is to the left as you come in so stay close enough to your port when into the main harbour as parts dry out to your starboard . So this is we’re we batten down the hatches and wait for some heavy weather to pass. Hope you enjoy the video and please give me a like and a little share. Have a great weekend folks

SCARBOROUGH TO LOWESTOFT - ROUND BRITAIN

 SCARBOROUGH TO LOWESTOFT

Off we go again leaving Scarborough and heading down the coast towards Lowestoft we had nice wind for a little while then on came the rain ..we headed to an anchorage at the start of the river Humber the anchorage is called Spurn point.. it was pitch black and getting foggy and the wind really started piping up the run up to this anchorage I didn’t like as the water got a bit messy close to the Spurn head so just be careful about here. We make to the anchorage and drop the anchor in about 40kts of wind the anchor caught straight away...I wasn’t a fan of this anchorage .the Humber rivers water is very dirty the anchorage was turbulent and for me it just seemed exposed...but hey it was only a stopping point for a short time as we had to make tracks as the weather was for changing for the worse... So an early start and of we go bit of a boring sail wind no wind and so on so plans were changing all the time we were for going to Holkham bay but it was exposed as anywhere else so we came on across the coast heading towards Cromer...the Vhf was starting to give thunder and lighting storms and heavy wind it was starting to come earlier than planned ...the tide had changed at Cromer and there was no way I could of pushed against it plus it was getting dark and this place is covered with pots so be careful here.. my plan was just drop the anchor well of the coast and get moving early again with the tide and daylight.. I’ve never felt so exposed the sky looked like we were anchoring at the mouth of hell and the forecasts was to get nasty ...but fingers crossed . We get going early the next morning and headed for a port to avoid the gales that was coming this coast offers no good anchorages in my eyes. We make good time heading towards Lowestoft and the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk yacht club...now Lowestoft entrance I will tell you this and take it serious going in here in the wrong conditions you could get into trouble ...I genuinely came through the entrance sideways so research it and watch conditions. The Royal Norfolk and Suffolk yacht club were absolute brilliant we had some work to be done on the boat and when they heard of our trip and some minor problems they gave us a few free nights which we greatly appreciated ..this was all set up for us without us knowing as we had a follower on here who contacted the club and explained our situation ..it was an amazing thing to happen being miles from home and help came pouring in we also had some nice funding that went into the go fund me page to help us ... so thank you very much to all that helped and supported us ( the go fund me link is in the comments below if anyone wishes to continue to help)... so enough chit chat from me hope you enjoy the video.

BLYTH TO SCARBOROUGH - ROUND BRITAIN

ROUND BRITAIN - BLYTH TO SCARBOROUGH

So it’s down the English east coast a place that just doesn’t cut it for me. We left Blyth and first headed for Whitby there was very little wind and lots of heavy fog it was an uneventful sail it was a little creepy entering the harbour in the thick fog..I really liked Whitby it really is the perfect seaside town. This place is hone to Dracula many people flock here because if it. The old castle is worth a visit. While here we met some really nice people and just as I mention it I’d like to say a big thanks to Josh and his other half for the whisky. Nice hearing their story as we spoke and knowing they were starting out in sailing in the very same kind of boat as my own a sigma 33. We spent some time here in Whitby before moving on down to Scarborough ...again this place is a bustling town it is nice but this just wasn’t for me I don’t like the hustle and bustle as I bought a sail boat to escape that.
